Date: November 29, 2023

A man was taken into custody after allegedly trying to use his vehicle to strike a Florida police officer near the Seminole Classic Casino Hollywood. The officer fired a shot at the suspect, identified as Solomon Eugene Terry, 26, but he was not injured, according to authorities.

The incident took place in a parking lot near the casino when the Seminole Police Department officer was responding to a medical assistance call around 7 a.m. A confrontation occurred between the officer and Terry, who then attempted to use his vehicle as a weapon against the officer. The officer discharged her firearm in Terry’s direction in self-defense. Terry fled the parking lot on foot, but was later apprehended by police officers equipped with a helicopter, police dogs, and tactical gear in an industrial zone about 90 minutes later.

Terry has been charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and the case has been turned over to the local prosecutor’s office. This is not Terry’s first run-in with the law, as he has previously been charged with aggravated battery, shooting inside an occupied building, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and carrying a concealed firearm in 2018. In the previous case, he pleaded no contest. If convicted in the current case, he could face a lengthy prison sentence.

In a separate incident, Florida authorities raided an arcade called Moonlight Express in Roseland, seizing over 60 gambling machines, cash, and computers. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Gaming Control Commission conducted the raid following warnings to the arcade to cease illegal gambling activities. The authorities shut down the business as the illegal gambling operations posed a risk of related crime.
