Kristaps Porzingis Sidelined with Calf Strain: Boston Celtics Injury Update

The Boston Celtics will be without center Kristaps Porzingis for at least a week as he recovers from a calf injury, the team confirmed on Saturday. Porzingis underwent an MRI to assess the extent of the injury, but the results were not disclosed by the Celtics. However, Porzingis hinted on social media that the injury was not serious and he would be back soon. Head coach Joe Mazzulla stated, “We will re-evaluate Kristaps in a week or so.”

The injury occurred during a game against the Orlando Magic, which the Celtics lost 113-96. This is the first time Porzingis has sustained an injury this season since joining the team. The Celtics acquired Porzingis from the Washington Wizards in a three-team trade, but concerns about his injury history were known, as he had previously dealt with injuries while playing for the New York Knicks, Dallas Mavericks, and Wizards.

Before his injury, Porzingis had been performing well for the Celtics, averaging 18.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game in 15 appearances. He had been shooting 54.7% from the floor and 32.4% from behind the arc. With his absence, the Celtics will rely on players such as Al Horford and Luke Kornet to fill the gap.

Despite their focus on winning the NBA championship, the Celtics are also participating in the inaugural In-Season Tournament. They have the opportunity to advance to the knockout stage, with their current group standings placing them in contention. The Celtics are also considered favorites to win the NBA championship and the Eastern Conference, as well as the Atlantic Division.

However, despite their strong start to the season, the Celtics have a losing record against the point spread, currently at 7-8-2. They are set to face the Chicago Bulls, with the Celtics being favorites. The Bulls have had a tough season, with locker room drama and trade rumors surrounding their star player, Zach LaVine.

The Celtics’ next game is against the Bulls, who are struggling this season. The Celtics currently hold the best record in the NBA at 13-4 and have yet to lose a game at home. However, they will need to adapt to Porzingis’ absence as they face upcoming challenges in the league.
