MGM Resorts International Recognized as Top Employer for Military Veterans

MGM Resorts International has been recognized as one of the top employers for military veterans, making it the only casino operator to appear on MilitaryTimes’ “Best for Vets 2023 Employers” list. This accolade places MGM Resorts International in 50th place out of 230 firms, making it the highest-ranking casino operator on the list and second only to Hilton Hotels & Resorts in the hospitality industry.

The “Best for Vets: Employers” survey is highly regarded by the military community as the most trusted veterans job ranking. According to a statement issued by MGM, veterans rely on these scores to aid in their transition to civilian life. The results of the survey are based on the policies and practices that make companies an attractive workplace for current employees and future job seekers within the military community.

In addition to MGM Resorts International, Veterans Benefits Guide, a Las Vegas-based company, also made the list, ranking 58th. This company provides services to veterans, including assistance in navigating the Veterans Affairs Department’s claims process.

The gaming industry, including MGM, has a long history of prioritizing the hiring of veterans and catering to those who have served. MGM Resorts takes pride in supporting military members and their families year-round. The company actively recruits and employs military men and women and provides retention through professional development programs. Additionally, MGM Resorts fosters an inclusive culture for veterans through its Employee Network Groups and is a proud member of the Veteran Jobs Mission, a coalition of companies aiming to place one million U.S. military members and veterans into meaningful and rewarding careers.

Nevada, where MGM Resorts International is based, is home to nearly 207,000 military veterans. The state ranks 29th out of the 50 states in terms of its veteran population, with more than 87,000 veterans in Nevada having served in the Korea or Vietnam Wars. MGM Resorts International’s recognition as a top employer for veterans places it ahead of well-known companies such as Southwest Airlines, JPMorgan Chase, and Home Depot.

Companies have various good reasons to hire veterans, as highlighted in a report by Syracuse University’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families. Veterans have the ability to transfer skills across a variety of roles and tasks, are proficient in technology, work well in teams, and thrive in fast-paced work environments. In the gaming industry, veterans are also viewed as trustworthy, which is a crucial trait in an industry where employees handle large amounts of cash and customers’ personal data.
