On November 17, 2023, a SUV crashed into a concrete barrier near the Caesars Palace Las Vegas fountains, resulting in two individuals being hospitalized. The incident occurred at 1:40 p.m., and while neither of the victims suffered serious injuries, pieces of the barrier were scattered over the nearby sidewalk and road. The driver of the vehicle was suspected of driving under the influence, as reported by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The vehicle involved in the crash was identified as a Chevrolet SUV by Las Vegas TV station KLAS. As a result of the crash, motorists were advised to avoid the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard South and East Flamingo Road, as the road was going to be used for the upcoming Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
However, the practice session for the auto race was delayed due to a loose water valve cover. Driver Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari struck the valve near the intersection of Flamingo Road and Las Vegas Boulevard, leading to the postponement of the practice. In a separate incident, four of the eight teenage defendants charged in the murder of Jonathan Lewis Jr. will have their cases heard in adult court. The accused boys, aged 16 or 17, are scheduled to appear before a judge. The four individuals were identified as Dontral Beaver, Damien Hernandez, Gianna Robinson, and Treavion Randolph.
The remaining four younger defendants are set to first appear in juvenile court, where a judge will decide whether to transfer their cases to adult court. The November 1 homicide took place near Rancho High School, as the defendants, ranging in age from 13 to 17, were students at the school. The brutal killing was captured on video, showing the defendants repeatedly kicking, stomping, and punching Lewis, resulting in critical head injuries and his subsequent death. Las Vegas police are currently searching for two other persons of interest in connection with the case.
